Investments in medical research can boost economic opportunity, health outcomes, and innovation – particularly in underserved communities. San Diego is home to innovative research institutions, but disparities in funding persist, especially for underrepresented scientists and research on diseases affecting diverse populations.
Prebys aims to create a medical research system that is collaborative, equitable, and innovative. The foundation seeks to ensure that underrepresented scientists have more opportunities to lead projects, that research on diseases affecting diverse communities is better funded, and that clinical trials are more accessible to underserved populations.
Our three primary goals:
- Encouraging collaboration to strengthen San Diego’s reputation in medical research by building shared infrastructure and fostering partnerships across sectors.
- Investing in underrepresented scientists by funding initiatives that improve diversity in research leadership at major institutions.
- Expanding access to clinical trials and research by supporting studies on diseases impacting diverse communities and increasing participation from underserved populations.
By focusing on these areas, the foundation aims to reduce disparities in medical research and ensure more equitable health outcomes for all.
