Why it Matters

Access to quality health care is vital for a thriving community, yet many San Diegans lack the care they need. Clinics, which serve as primary healthcare providers for many, are often understaffed and underfunded, and health organizations struggle to hire culturally competent staff.

The Prebys Foundation’s goal is to ensure that all San Diegans are mentally and physically healthy. To achieve this, the foundation focuses on training healthcare workers, improving access to culturally competent care in underserved communities, and building trust between healthcare providers and underrepresented populations.

Our approach includes:

  1. Workforce development, increasing training for culturally competent healthcare providers, including nurses and behavioral health professionals.
  2. Community healthcare, ensuring accessible and excellent care in underserved neighborhoods.
  3. Behavioral health, addressing the regional behavioral health crisis by investing in providers and improving access for those most in need.

Through these strategies, the foundation works to close healthcare gaps and improve well-being across San Diego.
